The creation process

The images grow layer by layer, gaining a depth that can only develop over time.

In my works, a vibrant flow of light and movement emerges from the free, playful exploration of color, form, and chance. This flow defies all rules, yet unfolds its own inherent logic. Through the deliberate destruction, sanding, and reconstruction of surfaces, I create unique worlds of light that can only arise from this experimental process and thus remain distinctive.

My paintings are not quick sketches. They often develop over months, usually years. I allow the layers of oil paint to dry completely, then sand them again and again. This reveals fragments of old paint, which then significantly influence the painting. I continue working with these “old remnants.” They make past processes visible, lending the painting a history, a patina. The paintings literally “grow” layer by layer, acquiring a depth that can only develop over time. In this process, I strive for an intense luminosity – a radiance from within – using the medium of paint and its impasto or glazing application.

A central theme in my work is childhood. It represents free, creative play, but also expectations, role models, and the pressures of being overwhelmed. I explore the tension between childhood imagination and adult reality.

In my painting, I reclaim my “lost childhood” – creating a childhood paradise where joy, color, and movement reign supreme. In this world, I am simultaneously king, fool, and sailor – ruler, dreamer, and explorer of my own world.
