Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) on Frank Nitsche as founder of the Kreativwerkstatt Aschersleben
“…After the renovation, the building (referring to the former Bestehorn printing factory) now serves as a school building and forms the entrance to Aschersleben’s new center – the Bestehornpark Education Center, framed by well-maintained greenery.
For Frank Nitsche, a long-cherished dream has come true. Right after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the art teacher at the Stephaneum Gymnasium, whose graduates include Neo Rauch, established a painting school for children and teenagers. For the past year, the 54-year-old has been the artistic director of the Kreativwerkstatt, the first youth art school founded in Saxony-Anhalt, in a building whose elegance would make many a major city envious. A small “MoMA.” The Stuttgart architect Arno Lederer designed the building as a rear extension to the old factory and, with its stepped roof, found a form that blends charmingly into the gabled landscape of the old town. Nitsche could hardly have wished for a more inspiring neighborhood for himself and his students. Right next door is the Graphic Arts Foundation…” Neo Rauch’s home, which the painter once called his “little MoMA” in reference to the Museum of Modern Art in New York.”
